The Weekend Fix

The house breaks. I fix it. I write down what it cost.

The part where I level with you

The Weekend Fix is written in the voice of Marty Hobbs. Marty is not a real person. There is no ranch in Chesterfield, no Deb, no Biscuit, and no swear jar, though there probably should be.

I am Andrew Lee Jenkins, and I am real. I write Marty because home repair advice is easier to read, and honestly more fun to write, when it comes from a guy with a story instead of a wall of numbered steps. Think of him like a character in a comic strip who happens to give you correct advice.

Here is the part that matters. The repairs are real. Every fix on this site describes real work with real parts and real prices pulled from current retail listings. The steps are researched and accurate to the best of my ability. When Marty says a flapper costs about seven bucks, that is a real price. When he tells you to shut off the breaker before touching an outlet, do exactly that.

Some posts recommend calling a professional, and some of the companies mentioned are businesses I work with. I only point to companies I would send my own family to.

One more thing. Home repair carries real risk. Marty never touches gas lines, electrical panels, garage door springs, roofs, or anything structural, and neither should you. When a post says call a pro, call a pro.

Questions about any of this? Email [email protected]. I am easier to reach than Marty.
